On Tuesday 13th December, King Edward VII Academy hosted an awards evening celebrating the achievements of students from Year 11, now in Year 12, and Year 13, now studying at university or in employment.

Following an address from several GCSE leaders, some of whom have since left the school and returned to attend the celebrations, awards were given to students for individual subjects including The Old Lennensians Prize for Computer Science, The Russen and Turner Language Prize for Spanish, and The Malcolm Whittley Prize for Art to name a few.

Awards were also given to those who excelled in their results, including The Hamilton Memorial Prizes for Good GCSE results and The W John Howes Prize for Progress and Effort.

Guests were greeted with a live musical presentation by Year 8 student, Amelia on the piano, and an interlude of Matilda playing her guitar, further showing guests the continued talents of the students attending KES Academy.

Guest speaker, Judge Peter Jacobs then gave an address in which he highlighted the proud history of the school, including his own experiences having attended the school 60 years prior, recognising how far the school has come in recent years, and congratulated the students on their many achievements, recognising the fantastic efforts of all students in attendance, whether they had or hadn’t received awards as a result.

A-Level prizes were then awarded to students who particularly shone during their studies, including The Trustees’ Prize for Geography, The Kenneth Bush Prize for Criminology, and The Oliver Jermynn Prize for Academy Progress. Head students Alice Brian, Bailey Naish and Caitlin Sieley were also recognised for their outstanding contributions to the school during their time at KES Academy Sixth Form, having been awarded The Michael Walker Prize for Head Students.

The Mayor’s Prize was presented to Hayden Lambert by the Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Councillor Margaret Wilkinson. He was put forward for the award, taking the prestigious award, runner up to the Royal Medal Winner.

Alina Ahsan was commended several times over, having particularly excelled in Science during her A-Levels, Alina was awarded The Trustees’ Prize for Biology, St John’s College Cambridge/J Charles Prize for Chemistry, and The Trinity College Prize for Science.

Alina secured her place at Oxford university to study medicine, a dream that she has aspired to achieve throughout her time at KES Academy. Alina will receive the Gold Medal Award from the King in an in-person awards ceremony next year.

Current Head Students, Lucy Maguire and Finlay Minns gave the closing statement of the evening, congratulating those who achieved awards and wishing those in attendance a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Head of Sixth Form, Alistair White said:

“It was wonderful to welcome the 2023 Year 11 and Year 13 cohorts to KES for their celebration evening yesterday evening. It is always a very special occasion, and it was great to see so many students and hear how they are progressing with their university courses and apprenticeships.

Many congratulations to all our prize winners and in particular Hayden Lambert who was awarded the Major's Prize and Alina Ashan, this year's Royal Gold Medal winner.

We would like to thank the trustees and all our donors for their generous contributions to the prizes awarded."
