For the first time in a decade, some of King's Lynn’s young adults will get the chance to enjoy a week’s work experience with local businesses, organisations and employers. King Edward VII Academy is giving their Year 10 students the opportunity to build employability skills, learn about future careers and work with the local community, in the traditional 'Work Experience Week', set for the week beginning Monday 1st July 2024.

These students, aged between 14 and 15 years old, will experience life at work in a range of jobs, from retail to office work, in technical services and agriculture, education and leisure - whatever career path the student is interested in pursuing in the future.

In addition to developing their skills and linking hard work to future successes, work experience offers so much to the employers. This includes developing staff management experience, improving induction and training, finding potential future employees and, of course, giving something back to the community. A company that offers work experience is a company that cares.

Dafydd Humphreys, Assistant Principal responsible for Raising Achievement at King Edward VII Academy said:

“Work Experience is a vital piece of the education jigsaw; it helps pupils make sense of their time in school and how to connect the dots to a happy and prosperous future. I am delighted to support our pupils gain useful work experience next year, having supported similar programmes in other schools in my career in Norfolk and London.”

Sarah Hartshorn, Principal at King Edward VII Academy said:

“Being able to provide students with the opportunity to experience the world of work is a great chance for them to get a taster into potential career options. It builds confidence and will help them stand out from the crowd in future applications. The pandemic prevented schools from collaborating with local businesses, I look forward to seeing our community support their future employees in our new endeavour!”

If you are an organisation who would offer one or more of our students work experience between 1st and 5th July 2024, please contact Mr Humphreys on dafyddhumphreys@kesacademy.org.uk
