On Sunday 23rd April, KES teacher and Head of Year 7, Danny Gay completed the London Marathon in a fantastic time of 3 hours 39 minutes. Mr Gay ran the marathon in memory of his late father, aiming to raise awareness and funds for the charity Motor Neurone Disease Association. With a goal of £3000, Mr Gay raised £4662 in total.

Danny Gay said:

“My Dad was fit, healthy and active. He loved his family and football was his passion. He would, as a youngster, take me all around the country to play and as I became older this continued and he loved watching me play.

After Dad’s death myself, my brother, friends and family completed the 3 peak challenge for MND in June 2017, raising £10k. That challenge was very much a team effort in memory of Dad. Five years on from this, I feel it’s now time to take on a personal challenge in memory of Dad and to raise awareness and money for MND.”

Principal of KES, Sarah Hartshorn said:

“We are so very proud of our very own Mr Gay for a such an amazing accomplishment. As a community, we have supported him every step of the way. It is such a wonderful cause that he has supported in memory of his father.

Danny shows such dedication in all that he does; being able to celebrate with him on Monday morning as a school community was wonderful. Despite the aches and pains he still managed to get to the top floor to teach his classes!”

Mr Gay said:

"I’m so proud of this great school and the support staff, students and parents have given me over this journey. I really wanted to make everyone proud and feel part of this marathon journey, I may have run the miles but without the support from everyone it would mean nothing to me or my family.”
