Is this course for me?

Health and Social Care is a very broad subject area. It pulls together many different disciplines to help us understand people and their needs. It combines biology, sociology, psychology, nutrition, and ethics. If you want to pursue a career in Health and Social Care, you will be working in a sector that is dedicated to helping other people, and improving their lives. It is an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling career path.

What will I learn?

Mandatory Units Include

FO90 - Exam - Principles of Health and Social Care

FO91 - Exam - Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care

FO92 - NEA - Person Centred Approach to Care

FO93 - NEA - Supporting People with Long Term Physiological Conditions

Plus Two Optional Units of:

  • Supporting people with mental health conditions
  • Investigating public health
  • Supporting people in relation to sexual health, pregnancy and postnatal health
  • Supporting healthy nutrition and lifestyles

This course is a single option that runs across two years and there is no option for double. This means that you can study Health and Social Care with another subject that has a double option, or you can study this course alongside two a-level subjects.

 

Anything else I need to know?

You will also need to purchase a polo shirt and text book. The polo shirt will be used when we visit local primary schools in order to gain experience and use this for our coursework.

 

Future careers:

You will be ready for a wide variety of degrees in the health and social care sector leading to some exciting career opportunities. For example, you may wish to study a degree in Midwifery, Radiology, or Nursing, or an apprenticeship in health and social care. It may be that you want to find work as a personal assistant, advocacy worker or activities worker
