Dear Pupils

Making curriculum choices in Year 9 is a very important part of your time in school. It is an opportunity for you to take control of your education and shape the way you want your future to be. The options you choose for Years 10 and 11 will affect how you spend your time at school for the next two years. The choices you make may also influence what choices you make when you join us in 
our 6th form.

In this booklet (download link below) you will find information about each course that is offered in year 10 and 11. We are delighted to have been able to invest heavily in our curriculum and have further widened our offer to you. I have no doubt that we have the right courses and pathways that will enable all pupils reach their desired future destinations.

Please take the time to read all the information carefully and make the most of the time to speak to teaching staff and your tutors. We will be offering many opportunities to provide you with the necessary advice and guidance, and assist you in deciding your subject preferences. You will also be able to attend taster sessions so that you are better informed when you make your final choices.

It is important to choose subjects that will interest you and motivate you. Spend some time thinking about what you enjoy doing, what keeps you interested and what makes you work hard. It is also important for you to consider where your strengths lie and how good you are at each subject. It makes sense to choose subjects in which you will perform to your best. It is vital that you make decisions based on your interests and not let your friends’ choices influence you. 

Remember that you are not alone in making these decisions; everyone in Year 9 is going through the same process. Teachers, friends, parents, carers and family will be able to guide, advise and support you in this important decision-making process. We have a wide range of choices at KES, so please enjoy the process and do not worry - all of us are here to help and guide you.
